Jeff Gehlhausen, MD, PhD

Jeff Gehlhausen, MD, PhD, is a dermatologist specializing in complex autoimmune skin conditions such as cutaneous lupus, dermatomyositis, and vasculitis. He combines his deep understanding of the immune system with the latest treatments to help patients with challenging skin diseases that affect overall health.

Dr. Gehlhausen's research focuses on understanding the signals underlying autoimmune diseases to better diagnose, treat, and manage conditions like lupus and dermatomyositis, potentially opening avenues for new therapies. His work involves basic and translational research using patient-derived samples to study the diseases he encounters in the clinic, with the goal of uncovering new insights into the pathophysiology of autoimmune skin diseases.

As an assistant professor of dermatology at Yale School of Medicine, Dr. Gehlhausen is committed to educating the next generation of dermatologists. He actively participates in teaching and mentoring residents and medical students at Yale, sharing his knowledge and passion for dermatology and autoimmune diseases.

Dr. Gehlhausen earned his medical degree and doctorate from Indiana University. He completed an internal medicine internship at Vanderbilt University and a dermatology residency at Yale School of Medicine, where he also completed a postdoctoral research fellowship with Akiko Iwasaki, PhD, a renowned immunologist who has worked on many basic and clinical aspects of viral immunology. He further specialized in autoimmune skin disorders during advanced training at Brigham and Women's Hospital.
