Trainees Introduce New Haven Public School Students to Psychiatry

    1 Minute Read

Four residents and a child psychiatry fellow were recently recognized for a community-based program in January that introduced about 80 public high school students from New Haven to psychiatry.

Abiba Salahou, MD; Yasmin Rawlins, MD; Idil Kina, MD; Brandon Manor, MD; and Alayna Freeman, MD volunteered to assist in the program, which was held in Yale’s Hope building.

The high school students were selected to participate in the Medical Student Exposure Program (MSEP), a competitive program that provides opportunities for underrepresented populations to gain meaningful exposure to various medical fields.

MSEP was founded by Kristen Obiakor, a Yale Pediatric Program graduate, and is currently managed and facilitated by the Yale Minority Housestaff Organization, with support from the Yale University Pathways Office and Graduate Medical Education office.
