• 00:09We're tapping into the limitless
• 00:10possibilities of biomedical data science,
• 00:12mining it to diagnose and treat
• 00:14all manner of health issues.
• 00:15We're at a juncture in history. Things
• 00:17are about to change.
• 00:18I say that medicine is now
• 00:20an information science,
• 00:21and at the Yale School of Medicine,
• 00:24we're leading the way.
• 00:25We can bring together data in ways
• 00:27that we could never do before,
• 00:29and it drives actionable information
• 00:31that we're able to put on the
• 00:33front lines of healthcare.
• 00:34And see it applied for the
• 00:36benefit of individual patients
• 00:37and for populations.
• 00:38Visualize
• 00:38data is not just about genetics,
• 00:40It's about social determinants of health.
• 00:42It's about access to care.
• 00:44It's about exposures that you
• 00:46had and fortunately we're able
• 00:48to capture those much better.
• 00:49Now we're also recognizing that there
• 00:51are issues around the quality of
• 00:53care that we can apply this new
• 00:56aged information science to ensure
• 00:58each person gets the right treatment
• 01:00at the right time in the right
• 01:02way for who they are getting to
• 01:04that real precision medicine we
• 01:06want to be on the discovery side.
• 01:08In that high risk,
• 01:10high reward activities,
• 01:11and those are currently in the
• 01:13funding environment not done
• 01:15through federal or state agencies.
• 01:17This is where academia has an
• 01:19advantage. It has the freedom to inquire.
• 01:22It has the interdisciplinary to collaborate.
• 01:24It has the students to infuse
• 01:26creativity and enthusiasm,
• 01:28and it has our mission to make
• 01:30impact on the lives of individuals.
• 01:33We're doing this because we want to make
